Prior to its getting translated, religion was dependent on a very few authorities for its interpretation to the non initiated, restricting its scope to a great extent. Primarily written in Hebrew it currently stands officially translated into 450 languages worldwide.

Translation of Buddhist Sutras
Buddhism renowned for its soul liberating postulations was limited to being insular in expanse, till these were translated into Chinese by the Buddhist hermits in the 2nd century BC. The rules of translation were contorted a bit to match the then prevailing Chinese sensibilities. The result is that the count of the followers of Buddhism in China has crossed the 100 million mark today.
Treaty of Kadesh
This famous treaty endorsed by the Egyptians and the Hittites, after a prolonged war is more famous for its translated versions in both the languages of the endorsers. Mark Twain’s Back- Translation of his own work
Twain, very famously demonstrated the inherent differences across languages by translating one of his works back from French to English, and published both again at the same time. This translation by him remains famous till date in the history of literature.
